What Does The Driving Test Include

Once you have passed your theory test and completed your lessons you are ready to tackle the practical version of your driving test.

This part of the test can fill people with dread as some people may not be aware of what is involved. Hopefully this page of our website will shed some light on what the driving test involves.

Before you enter the vehicle and begin the driving part of your test, you will have an eyesight check and be asked to answer 2 vehicle safety questions.

The eyesight check will be reading a number plate from 20 metres. If you struggle with reading or can't speak English then you have the option of writing the answer down.

Once you are in the car, the driving part of the test will last for about 40 minutes. Throughout this time the examiner will be looking for an overall safe standard of driving. They give you directions to follow and you will drive in various road and traffic conditions to ensure that you can operate the vehicle safely. At all times you should drive in the way that your instructor taught you to drive.

Within these 40 minutes you will have 10 minutes of independent driving. This is not a test of your orientation and navigation skills it is a test to see if you can safely control the vehicle. You will either follow traffic signs, have a series of verbal directions to follow or a combination of both.

At the end of the test you will see if you have passed or not. If you have prepared and driven like you would have with your instructor then all should be well and you will be ready to get out safely onto the roads.
